WE FEED US: FREE GROCERY PROGRAM
The government shutdown means that SNAP was stopped on November 1. Food Stamps were not paid out. This impacts over 1,400 households in Gallatin County.
Latest reports suggest that the shutdown could extend into the new year, and only 50% of Food Stamp payments will go out in November. No money for food on the table means no money for medication and prescriptions, utilities and rent. Meanwhile the people in power are playing games with our lives.
But WE GOT US. Following discussion in our Sunday tenant meeting, Bozeman Tenants United launched an emergency free grocery program for union members. Dozens of members and new volunteers stepped up to run the program, and over 100 tenants reliant on SNAP were fed during the Nov. 3rd first trial week.
Bozeman Tenants United will continue to purchase groceries, partner with local grocers like Town and Country to support with storage and packaging, and distribute grocery boxes that cover 1 full week, starting with citywide union members, and apartment and mobile home park unions (Bridger Peaks, Bridger Heights, King Arthur Park, Mountain Meadows Estates). We plan to expand the program as we are able.
WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT: Donate and sponsor a grocery box, a whole month of weekly deliveries for union members, or give whatever you can, & sign up to help package and distribute grocery boxes. Join us in practicing an economics of solidarity, a politics of care. WE FEED US.
BUILD TENANT POWER
BUILD TENANT POWER
After election day, the tenant union doesn’t pack up our bags to go home. There is still a housing crisis to fix, politicians to hold accountable, and a better future to win that can only be won by all of us together - that’s why in this uncertain political moment it is more important than ever to support local grassroots organizations.
